Our Four-Step Landscape Design Process

01 — Consultation

Start with how you want to live outdoors.

Every project begins with a conversation.

We'll discuss your property, how you currently use your outdoor spaces, what isn't working, what you'd like to change, and what you envision for the future.

We'll also talk through priorities, potential features, planting preferences, budget considerations, and the overall scope of the project.

This is where ideas begin to take shape and the direction for the design is established.

02 — Site Analysis & Measurements

Understand the property before designing it.

The existing property provides the foundation for the design.

We assess and document the conditions that will influence the landscape, including the home's architecture, existing trees and vegetation, sun and shade, topography, drainage and grading considerations, soil conditions, views, privacy, access, and opportunities within the site.

Understanding what is already there allows the design to respond to the property rather than work against it.

03 — Design Development

Bring the pieces together.

With the site and project goals established, the landscape design begins to take shape.

This is where the individual pieces come together: circulation, outdoor living areas, planting spaces, privacy, focal points, materials, and the relationship between the house and garden.

The design is developed and refined with your input so that the final plan reflects both the character of your property and the way you want to use it.

The goal is not simply to create attractive spaces individually, but to create a landscape that feels connected from one area to the next.

04 — Landscape Plan & Visualization

Turn the design into something you can build from.

Once the design is developed, it is translated into clear plans and supporting information that can guide the next stage of your project.

For projects where it adds value, 3D visualization allows you to see how the proposed landscape will look in relation to your home before construction begins.

The result is a practical design package that gives you and your future contractor a clear understanding of the intended landscape.

Shows the location and arrangement of proposed plants throughout the landscape.

Plant Schedule
What to buy and where to find it
Provides the details for each proposed plant, along with local sourcing information and nursery availability to help guide purchasing.

Material Selections
What the landscape is made from
Specifies the materials and finishes for the landscape, including the specific patio stone, paving, retaining wall materials, fencing, and other hardscape elements selected for the design.

Design Details & Dimensions
How the landscape comes together
Key dimensions, notes, and design details provide additional clarity for the contractor during construction.

Where appropriate, 3D visualization provides a realistic view of the proposed landscape before construction begins.

The exact deliverables vary depending on the size and complexity of your project, but the goal remains the same: to give you a design you can confidently move forward with.

Once your landscape design is complete, you have the freedom to choose who builds it.

You can bring your plans to a contractor you already know, seek multiple proposals, or use the design as the foundation for finding the right landscape professional for your project.

Having a completed design also makes it easier to compare proposals. Contractors  work from the same overall design intent, giving you a clearer basis for understanding differences in scope, materials, and pricing.

And because the design was developed independently of construction, you can make those decisions without being tied to a particular installation company.

We don't compete with your contractor. Our role is to create the design and documentation that gives the contractor a clear foundation to build from.
