Front Yard Landscape Design for a Milton New Build

The Vision

This new home in a Milton subdivision began as a blank canvas. The homeowners wanted a front yard that felt polished and welcoming while adding privacy, structure, and seasonal interest without creating a high-maintenance garden.

The Design

The landscape plan uses layered evergreen planting to provide year-round structure, while flowering perennials and spring bulbs add colour and seasonal interest.

The expansive corner lot created an opportunity to add depth with a new island garden. The existing spruce became a focal point, surrounded by evergreen junipers, a dwarf weeping Norway spruce, and a sculptural boulder. A new fence adds privacy while helping the garden feel more established within the neighbourhood.

The foundation garden and redesigned walkway complete the transformation, creating a more welcoming approach to the home.

Evergreen Structure with Seasonal Interest  — A foundation of evergreen shrubs and conifers provides year-round structure, while flowering perennials and spring bulbs add colour throughout the season.

A Focal Point for the Corner Lot  — The island garden transforms the open front yard into a more dynamic landscape, using the existing spruce as an anchor and adding depth with carefully selected plants and a sculptural boulder.

Plant Palette

The planting design in this project focuses on evergreen structure with selective seasonal flowering for softness and colour.

Island Feature Garden — The existing spruce is used as the central focal point, surrounded by low, sculptural evergreens including carpet juniper, dwarf mugo pine, and a dwarf weeping Norway spruce. Together, they create a defined garden feature with year-round structure and texture. Tulips are planted in drifts at the front of the garden for an early burst of spring colour.

Foundation Garden — Along the house, Strongbox holly is used in repetition to establish rhythm and definition. A dwarf mugo pine and weeping Japanese maple add texture and softness, while masses of spring tulips brighten the walkway. 

Side Yard Transition Garden — As the foundation planting wraps around the house, the palette opens up with more flowering interest to make the most of the sunny exposure. Rose of Sharon and Eclipse hydrangea add seasonal colour and softness.
